Day 1: Arrival, transfer from Lisbon Airport to the little Spanish village of La Codosera where you will stay for the first 2 nights. Diner and tour briefing.
Day 2: Breakfast, transfer to the Finca to meet the horses. Start of the tour in La Codosera. In the morning we will cross pasture land covered by cork- and holm-oaks and will then cross the Spanish-Portuguese border. As soon as we are on Portuguese ground, we will make our way towards the West. After our picnic lunch we will reach somewhere near Urra where we will leave the horses with a famous Lusitano breeder. Return to La Codosera by car.
Day 3: We will cross open range grazing land and cork oak forests. Wide and even paths give us the chance to enjoy some galopping. We will have our picnic lunch near Portalegre. In the afternoon we will reach somewhere in the vicinity of the small town of Crato where the horses will stay for the night. We will go by car to Alter do Chaõ, a 4* hotel, the old convent of the village, which will be our accommodation for the next two nights.
Day 4: On the way back to the horses, we will stop at the Portuguese National Stud in Alter do Chaõ, with its more than 750 year-old buildings. After that we will go on to Crato to meet the horses. On our ride we will pass by some impressive granite rocks and make our way towards the little village of Aldeia da Mata. Before we reach the village, we will meet our picnic car. The horses will spend the night near the village Cunheira.
Day 5: This will be our longest riding day. We will pass by cultivated fields ( tobacco, corn or crop - depending on the season ) and will head for Longomel. After lunch we will cross vast eucalyptus forests while we make our way to Bemposta, where we will leave the horses for the night. We will go by car to our hotel in Torres Novas where we will stay for the next three nights.
Day 6: Landscapes vary between eucalyptus and cork- and holm-oak forests as we head for Tramagal. We will enjoy lunch in an idyllic place. The horses will be brought by truck to the Golega area. There will be enough time for us to visit the Horse Festival before we go back to our hotel for dinner.
Day 7: In the morning, we will groom the horses for the festival and will then take them to the Feria. After we have returned the horses to the coral we will have our picnic lunch. We will then say good-bye to the horses and will visit the festival one more time in the evening. Dinner and accommodation in Torres Novas.
